Amer Khayat, 41, brother of Khaled and Mahmoud Khayat, was released on bail after being held since 2017. Amer Khayat was on trial for his alleged involvement in a plot to blow up an Etihad Airways flight to Abu Dhabi from Sydney. He had attempted to carry a bomb concealed within a meat grinder onto the flight but was denied because his luggage was too heavy. However, Australian authorities claimed that Amer Khayat was unaware of the bomb, and that his two brothers, Khaled and Mahmoud, planted it there to carry out an attack for Islamic State.
