11 March 2022: Berlin, Germany

Trains from Poland, filled with hundreds of Ukrainian refugees, have been arriving at Berlin’s main train station every other hour for days. The trains are mostly filled with mothers and children looking for a safe place away from the war that broke out in late February. Loudspeakers in the station stated in Ukrainian and English: “Dear refugees from Ukraine, welcome to Germany, please follow the instructions of the volunteers in the yellow and orange vests.” Numerous volunteers are available in high visibility vests to assist and direct the refugees towards a basement area of the station that has turned into a temporary refugee town.
