Kenyan-born Cholo Abdi Abdullah, 30, an al-Shabaab militant, was charged with terrorism offences after being extradited to the US from the Philippines the previous day. He had been arrested in July 2019 for conspiring to hijack aircraft and perpetrate a 9/11-style attack on a US target. He was found to have travelled to the Philippines in order to attend a flight school and gain a pilot’s licence between 2017 and 2019, all the while researching hijack methods and potential targets.
