2 DECEMBER 2020: MALTA

Shah Soko Moussa, 29, was sentenced for his role in the 2016 Afriqiyah Airways hijacking. Moussa and his accomplice, Ali Ahmed Saleh, 30, hijacked the flight whilst it was in Libyan airspace and forced it to divert to Malta. They threatened to blow up the flight if it did not land in Rome; however, neither of the hijackers were violent towards crew or passengers, and only had replica weapons with them. Moussa was jailed for 25 years and ordered to pay €9,990 (c. £9,100).
