2 NOVEMBER 2020: LAMEZIA TERME, ITALY

A 41-year-old man, an IT technician for Saca, the airport operator at Lamezia Terme International Airport, allegedly installed malware and five electronic processors on the airport’s infrastructure in order to mine for Ethereum, causing the airport to pay for the costs of powering the equipment. Other technicians noticed anomalies in the systems and informed the police who were able to identify the culprit by watching the CCTV footage in two of the technical rooms.
