21 OCTOBER 2020: HELSINKI, FINLAND

Reports emerged that a 42-year-old man was sentenced for damaging the toilets on a Finnair flight from Helsinki to Vietnam in 2017. The man attempted to use a Finnair gift card to purchase a product during the flight. After a flight attendant refused the method of payment, the man entered the toilet. A flight attendant went into the cubicle after he left and found that the passenger had damaged the cabinet under the sink, smashed the walls and pulled off a towel rail. He was given a one-year suspended sentenced and ordered to pay €43,000 (c. £39k) in damages to Finnair, and pay their legal costs.
