24 SEPTEMBER 2019: POINT LAY, ALASKA

Two pilots were fined $3,000 (c. £2,440) by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service for disturbing walruses by flying their aircrafts low over Chukchi Sea Beach – a gathering site for walruses during the late season. The incident occurred in September 2017. The disturbance of walruses can scare them into a stampede which could kill other walruses.
