25 JANUARY 2019: ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN

Two Chinese nationals protested the new ‘mobile tax policy’ in Pakistan. The policy states that foreign visitors and travellers returning to Pakistan are required to pay tax if they bring more than one handset into the country. Lei Zhentao and Lian Zhenfu had a total of six handsets and had to pay $285 (c. £220) in tax. After paying the tax they proceeded to lay down on the floor of Islamabad Airport, blocking the exit of international arrivals. The protest ended when airport security informed them that their message would be forwarded to the relevant officials.
