27 AUGUST 2020: GLASGOW, SCOTLAND

A third appeal by the family of Abdelbasset Al Megrahi, who was convicted for the Lockerbie bombing on a Pan Am flight on 21 December 1998, which killed a total of 270 people, has been granted permission to proceed. Megrahi died in 2012. The Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission stated that the evidence did not prove Megrahi was guilty beyond reasonable doubt and that the Crown Office had failed to disclose information to the defence. Two protected documents with an immunity certificate will be reviewed as part of the appeal.
