Reports emerged that three Danish workers – Jeffrey Carswell, 76, Bent Hansen, 80, and Heinz Eriksen, 74 – are seeking compensation for long-term illnesses allegedly caused by a US B-52 nuclear bomb crash near the Thule Air Base in January 1968. Four hydrogen bombs were on board the US B-52, and the Danish workers claim that exposure to plutonium caused them to develop cancer. Carswell alleges that they were not given radiation detection devices, protective face masks or suits during the clean-up (see photo). Additionally, they claim that they were exposed to plutonium from the ice cubes in their drinks from the local bar and were not informed of the plutonium levels by the American or Danish governments.
