4 MARCH 2020: CIUDAD JUÁREZ, MEXICO

A shootout ensued between gunmen and the Mexican National Guard at Abraham González International Airport. There were no direct casualties; however, an airport worker was wounded and a 62-year-old woman died of a heart attack. The police located three vehicles connected to the crime, with two containing rifles. It is suspected that the gunmen targeted Juan de Dios Valle Camacho, the Mayor of Villa Ahumada, who was due to board a flight to Culiacán. On 2 March the Mayor’s son, Juan Uriel Valle, had arrived in Juaréz and was shot and killed whilst waiting on a road outside the airport.
