Approximately 15 armed robbers stole from around 50 students and their parents at Tokua International Airport. The group arrived at the airport on a coach to board a flight to Port Moresby when they were surrounded by the assailants. The students turned on the robbers and chased them down to the airport market, where they allegedly caught a 17-year-old suspect and beat him to death. An off-duty security guard at the market got involved in the fight and was also beaten to death. Two students sustained knife injuries. Flights from the airport were subsequently cancelled.
