$5 Million in Meth Hidden in Fake Watermelons

Near Otay Mesa at the border of Texas and Mexico, Customs and Border Patrol agents found more than $5m in street value of methamphetamine hidden in fake watermelons. The drugs were wrapped in plastic painted to resemble the melons and placed among real ones.

United States border agents intercepted the truck and seized the highly addictive stimulant at the US-Mexico border. The driver was handed over to Homeland Security officials.

Stashing drugs among produce has become a common way to smuggle illegal substances across borders. Officers have found drugs in cabbages, Gouda cheese and avocados, among others.
