8 OCTOBER 2020: MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

Zailee Zainal, 40, a Malindo Air flight attendant, was sentenced to nine years and six months in prison. Zainal was one of several individuals found smuggling large quantities of heroin on Melbourne-bound flights for an international drug syndicate. Before her arrest in January 2019, it is alleged that Zainal conducted around 20 smuggling operations, each time concealing up to a kilo of heroin worth AUD $195,000 (c. £ 110k) between her thighs and in her bra. Zainal claimed she was desperate to earn money to pay her daughter’s medical bills. She will be eligible for parole after three years.
