9 JULY 2020: MUMBAI, INDIA

A sessions court upheld a lower court order to acquit Abdul Latif Adam Momin and 18 other people including passport office clerks, driving school employees, postmen and a passport agent, who were all linked to the 24 December 1999 hijacking of Indian Airlines flight IC-814 between Kathmandu and Delhi to Qandahar. Momin and the others were accused of bribing and forging passports for the hijackers. The court dismissed a plea by the Mumbai police against the acquittal on the grounds that they failed to prove the links between the accused. Momin has been serving a life sentence since 1999.
