Adventurer Perishes in Atlantic Solo Rowing Attempt

Jean-Jacques Savin, 75-year-old French adventurer, died during his solo attempt to row across the Atlantic Ocean. His boat was overturned and he was found inside the cabin. The Audacious was just off the Azores Islands. Savin set off Jan. 1 from southern Portugal and planned to be asea three months. The announcement of his death was made on the Facebook page following his journey. The post said maritime rescue services located his body this past Saturday. They said he had activated two distress beacons on Thursday. “Unfortunately, the ocean this time was stronger this time than our friend, he who so loved navigating and the sea,” the Facebook post announcing his death said.
