Chicago Authorities Investigate Vehicle Ramming Attack with Hate Crime Implications

On Saturday, May 1, 2021 a group of people having a picnic observed and heard a man in a truck yelling at them. The group asked the man to leave saying his comments were not welcome. The man reportedly used a racist slur and then drove his Ford F150 truck into the group. He struck two people and the rest of the group ran for safety. One person was trapped under the vehicle and seriously injured.

The driver of the truck, Tim Nielsen, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder, according to police. He was ordered held without bail.
