This week China launched the Fujian, an aircraft carrier. It is the third aircraft carrier in their fleet.
According to Chinese state media it is the most advanced warship they have and was launched “in a short but festive ceremony” at the China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) shipyard in Shanghai. Construction began on on the carrier four years ago, in 2018.
The ship was designed domestically in China and features such technological devices as electromagnetic catapults and arresting devices for helping planes take off and land on the deck, It has a displacement of more than 80,000 tons.
The Fujian will now start mooring and sea trials. A fourth aircraft carrer is reportedly under construction.
