Last week, France’s leader, Emmanuel Macron, introduced plans for a next generation green super high-speed train system. The French call them TGVs.
“This decade for the TGV will be about innovation,” President Macron said at a ceremony in the Gare de Lyon station. “[France] must respond to the challenge of moving around by emitting less and promoting new energy forms.”
At the presentation, a full-scale model of the train that can carry 740 passengers was displayed. The goal is for the train to use 1/5th the electricity as compared to today’s trains at a speed of 199mph. The target date for entry into service is 2024.
