Out for a walk together in Ontario, Canada, four members of a Muslim family were killed Sunday, June 6, 2020 when a black truck drove into them.
Those killed included Salman Afzaal, 46, his wife Madiha Salman, 44, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna Afzaal and Salman Afzaal’s 74-year-old mother, Talat Afzaal. The youngest member of the family, a 9 year old, survived the attack.
The driver of the truck, a 20-year old man, has been charged with four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder. Police there are calling it a hate-motivated attack. The driver of the truck, Nathaniel Veltman, was arrested near the scene immediately after the attack. It is reported that he “planned the attack and targeted the family because of their Muslim faith.”
