Governor Greg Abbott, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and the Texas National Guard are working together to secure the border, stop the smuggling of drugs, weapons and people into Texas. They hope to prevent, detect and interdict transnational criminal behavior between ports of entry.
In conjunction with Operation Lone Star, Governor Abbott announced the deployment of new marine floating barriers to deter illegal crossings in hotspots along the Rio Grande River. The administration says this strategy will proactively prevent illegal crossings between ports of entry by making it more difficult to cross the Rio Grande and reach the Texas side of the southern border. The first 1,000 feet of the marine floating barrier will be deployed near Eagle Pass.
