A good samaritan off the coast of Fort Pierce, Florida found an overturned boat with one person clinging to it. It was later determined that the sole survivor of that boat was a young Colombian man traveling with his younger sister, as confirmed by the Colombian government.
The sister was among 34 others who also died in the migrant voyage. They were killed when the boat capsized shortly after setting out for Florida from Bimini in the Bahamas. The Coast Guard spent three days searching for survivors and at least five of the bodies were recovered by authorities in Florida.
