Suez Canal Still Blocked

Authorities at the Suez Canal are saying it could take weeks to get a container ship unstuck that is wedged across the canal. The ship became stuck in the canal after reports of high winds blowing the ship sideways with the nose of ship on one side of the canal and the back of the ship on the opposite side. Maneuvering did not loosen the ship. Excavators are working to dig out an area to help the ship get free.

The extremely heavy nature of the ship, one of the largest on the oceans, is preventing a simply tug assist from loosening it. Ships are lined up in both directions to pass the through one of the busiest shipping lanes on the planet – at last count around 150 of them are waiting. Authorities are warning many countries supply chains will be impacted by this delay.
