96 cars from JUCY Rentals – a car and campervan rental company located near Auckland Airport – were stolen during the COVID-19 lockdown. The robbers entered the yard where the cars were kept through a hole in the fence, dismantled an entry gate and drove off with the stolen cars. The cars were reportedly unlocked. The robbery, which is believed to have occurred over several days, was only discovered when police had several incidents of drivers failing to stop, resulting in pursuits. 18 cars from another rental company were damaged in the same yard. 86 of the stolen cars were recovered in the local area and 28 people were arrested in relation to the theft.
