A Sunwing flight to Panama returned to Toronto escorted by two US military jets after Ali Shahi, 25, claimed to have a bomb and intended to “blow up Canada” after discovering that cigarettes being sold on board were 25 cents cheaper than those he bought in the airport. Shahi’s family claimed he has a history of mental illness. He was charged with mischief to property, mischief interfering of the lawful enjoyment of property, uttering threats and endangering the safety of an aircraft. He was released on CND $1,000 (c. £580) bail.
