Hong Kong International Airport has been a continued target for those protesting against police brutality, the government and its proposed extradition law. Between the 9-11 August there was a planned sit-in protest in the arrival’s hall of the airport – causing no disruptions to flights. However, on 12 August flights were suspended after at least 5,000 anti-extradition protestors, demonstrated spontaneously at the airport. On 1 September, protestors blocked road access to Hong Kong International Airport by placing burning barricades around the airport. On 9 August, the Civil Aviation Authority of China allegedly sent an instruction to airlines that called for the suspension of staff who supported the protest – deeming them a security risk. Cathay Pacific have fired staff for their support of the protests.
