Aviation Security International: a twenty year timeline

2014 ‘officially’ marks the 20th anniversary of Aviation Security International. We say ‘officially’ as the early years of the journal’s history were somewhat turbulent in nature, with the frequency varying each year and no issue being numbered. Our readers owe thanks to the vision of Brenda Jackson and Paul White who launched the journal in November 1993.

However, the issue labelled as being Volume 1 Issue 1 actually only appeared in January 1996. In 2000, recognising a slightly longer history than had first been appreciated, we moved from Volume 5 to Volume 6 mid-year! Now, in February 2014, being 20 years and 3 months old, we are delighted to offer you a 20-year time line.

October 1995: Relaunch Issue:
Andrew Smith, the Managing Director of Halldale Publishing & Media Ltd., re-launches ASI having acquired it from Paul White and Brenda Jackson. Homer A. Boynton was the Consultant Editor.

June 1997: Volume 2 Issue 2:
Philip Baum was appointed Editor-in-Chief of ASI in April 1997 by the then publishers Halldale Publishing & Media Ltd. We introduced the concept of the Editorial Advisory Board; Geoffrey Askew and Norman Shanks are the only members of the original Board still serving today.
