22 March 2023: Seoul, South Korea

A male zebra escaped a zoo in Seoul, South Korea and spent hours trotting through the city on busy roads and back alleys. Eventually, experts tranquilized the animal and returned it to the zoo. Social media videos showed the 3-year-old zebra, named Sero, galloping through the Gwangjin district of Seoul amid heavy traffic. Firefighters were dispatched to the scene and were able to herd it into an alley, where it was tranquilized and brought back to the Children’s Grand Park, where it normally resides in east Seoul.

26 March 2023: Latvia

Latvia, which was formerly a part of the Soviet Union, has been sending cars that have been seized from drunk drivers to help the military effort in Ukraine. The country is working with the NGO Twitter Convoy. Officials in Latvia said the drink-and-drive seized vehicles will be in better hands there and used for logistics. The vehicles sent from Latvia are said to be offered for use for war supplies and medical transport. Announcing the transfer of the vehicles to Ukraine, the head of the charity, Renys Poznakas, said the vehicles would be in good hands in Ukraine. The first batch of vehicles from Latvia was sent to Ukraine at the end of March. They will be given to a hospital of a Ukrainian army unit in Vinnytsia and a medical association in Kupyansk.

11 April 2023: Rochdale, UK

A lorry to tipped over on a busy U.K. motorway during high winds caused by Storm Noa. The HGV slid across all three lanes causing major delays on the M62 as the storm hit the U.K. The HGV was traveling in the left lane near Rochdale when it tipped over and crashed. It then slid across three lanes before it hit the central median. One person was injured in the lorry accident National Highways confirmed, said a report in the Manchester Evening News.

22 May 2023: Washington D.C.

Sai Varshith Kandula, 19, flew to Washington, rented a U-Haul truck and drove straight to the White House. Once there he crashed the rental truck into a security barrier and began waving around a Nazi flag. Authorities said this action was the culmination of his six-month plan to “seize power” from the government. After ramming the vehicle into the barrier on the north side of Lafayette Square, he removed the flag from a backpack according to the charging documents. He was arrested by a U.S. Park Police officer who arrived at the scene of the crash and observed him take out the flag. Reports say Kandula told Secret Service agents that he’d flown from St. Louis on a one-way ticket and wanted to “get to the White House, seize power, and be put in charge of the nation.” He said he would “kill the president, if that’s what I have to do,” the charges state.

18 May 2023: Charlotte, North Carolina

A bus driver and passenger shot at each other on a moving Charlotte, North Carolina transit bus, leaving both injured, transit authorities said. The incident began when the passenger, identified as Omarri Shariff Tobias, got up while the bus was in motion and asked the driver to let him off between designated bus stops, according to a news release from Charlotte Area Transit System. Tobias pulled out a gun and pointed it at the driver, David Fullard, the transit system said. Fullard also pulled out a gun, the transit system said. Both men fired their guns “in rapid succession,” although it is unclear who shot first, a company spokesperson said. Fullard was struck in the arm and Tobias was struck in the abdomen, according to the transit system.

17 June 2023: Veracruz, Mexico

Mexican police found 129 migrants crowded into a truck trailer in the eastern state of Veracruz, the National Migration Institute (INM) said in a statement. The migrants were crammed into a trailer in the midst of a heat wave in Mexico this year, where higher-than-normal temperatures reached 45°C (113°F), including in Veracruz, where the truck filled with humans was discovered. Four suspected traffickers were arrested during the action.

15 May 2023: Forsyth County, Georgia

A man was shot in a road rage incident along Ga. 400 in a suburb north of Atlanta. The man called 911 and reported that he was shot in the arm by a man driving a white Toyota, according to a statement released by the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office. He told police that he had honked at the vehicle and then he passed it and the other driver started to follow him. The driver allegedly began shooting at the truck and a bullet went into the victim’s arm, deputies said. The alleged shooter, 31-year-old Joshua Kasparek, was found and arrested.

15 March 2023: Rochester, New York

A jeep, stolen at knife point just moments earlier, was caught on camera crashing into a school bus filled with children in Rochester, New York. The jeep was being pursued by police already and the driver was apprehended and arrested at the scene. Fortunately, there were no injuries to the bus riders.

10 February 2023: Jerusalem, Israel

A suspected vehicle ramming occurred in Jerusalem, Israel, on February 10. The incident injured seven people. The incident occurred near a bus stop at the corner of Golda Meir Avenue and Binyamin Mintz in the Ramot neighborhood. A six-year-old boy and a 20-year-old man were killed. Five others were wounded in the car-ramming terror attack according to local police. One of those wounded was a child in critical condition, who was the brother of the six-year-old who died. The attacker was identified as Hussein Karaka, 31. He was shot and killed at the scene. There was a heightened security presence around the scene of the incident and for several hours afterwards.

A massive car pile up occurred during the bomb cyclone on the Ohio Turnpike MP 106. Troopers on scene confirmed four fatalities with many injured from the pile up, with a minimum of 46 vehicles involved. Multiple agencies from several counties assisted with rescue operations. White-out conditions persisted for an extended period of time.
