Hamas members have been using incendiary balloons and sometimes kites to burn fields across the border, releasing them from Gaza over the Israeli border. The balloons cause damage and are fire hazards, often landing on the farmland immediately surrounding Gaza or on nature reserves.
It is estimated that 10,000 acres have been burned in Israel from these devices in the last three years. Meanwhile, it is reported that Israel has purchased drones to use in combating the balloons.
