Smiths Awarded Contract for Darwin & Alice Springs

Smiths Detection has announced that it has been awarded a contract by Northern Territory (NT) Airports to supply advanced Computed Tomography (CT) checked baggage and passenger screening systems for Darwin and Alice Springs airports. Both airports will be the first in Australia to adopt CT technology for passenger screening. Smiths will install seven units of HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX as part of an integrated checkpoint with iLane.evo, the automated tray return system for automated tray handling at NT Airports. Four units of HI-SCAN 10080 XCT, for checked baggage screening, will also be installed. The projects at Darwin and Alice Springs airports are on to be delivered by mid-2020.
Also in an Australian context, Smiths has announced the end of a six-week trial with Gold Coast Airport for its CT technology, the HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX. The trial was deemed a success with improvements of screening time and the airports detection capabilities because passengers did not need to remove items such as laptops and liquids from their cabin luggage because of the use of CT technology to produce 3D images. The HI-SCAN 6040 CTiX was supported with the implementation of iLane.evo, an automatic tray-handing system and Checkpoint Evo Plus, a checkpoint management software that facilitates remote screening of the scanned images.
